Construction and Optical Design
Its internal focus and zoom design make it perfect for video shooters, especially when using a gimbal. The lens is equipped with two floating focus Nano USM motors that drive the Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus, allowing fast, quiet, and independent focus for both stills and video. Focus breathing is minimized, ensuring a stable image as you zoom, and a lockable manual iris ring ensures consistent exposure. Optically, the lens comprises 18 elements in 15 groups, including two super ultralow dispersion elements, one ultralow dispersion element, and three aspherical lenses for superior edge-to-edge clarity. Canon’s Air Sphere and Super Spectra Coatings reduce ghosting and flare, while a fluorine coating protects the front element from oil and water.
