The G45NGX gives great value as it is fast, efficient, and takes great day pictures. The night pictures and videos can overexpose on close objects, but the for money, this is a great value. - TCP Staff
Trailcampro Comprehensive Score:
82/100
Photo resolution: 22 interpolated mpxl
Video resolution: 1280x720 w/ audio
Flash Type: Low glow IR
The G45NGX has taken some great day photos for us. The pictures are crystal clear, have realistic color, and really good depth. These are some of the better day photos we have seen this year.
Night photos are really good as long as the animal isn't close to the camera. The camera does not auto-adjust and will overexpose any animals within 10-15' of the camera.
Video quality is as good as you can reasonably expect from a 720 resolution camera. Day videos are really good but, much like the pictures, the camera will overexpose at night on close object. All-in-all these are good not great videos.
What if you purchase from us and aren't happy with the image quality?
This is a common question and we have a very simple solution. Call, email, or chat with us and we can take a look at the images and offer suggestions or immediately tell if something is wrong with the camera. If so, we will warranty the camera for you (with the free 2-Year warranty you receive from us) or return the camera for a full refund (within 90 days of purchase). You have control of the process, remember, we work for you.
Megapixel Ratings:
In the past, many people get confused with the megapixel rating trail camera manufacturers advertise. Companies inflate the mpxl rating to attract eyes to their products. They do this through interpolation, which digitally adds megapixels to a photo without actually improving the picture.
The best way to judge picture quality is to look at actual pictures. You will notice this the most when you zoom in on a full-size image that a camera has taken. The details of the photo will appear hazy or even digitized. This is normal, and to be expected.
Picture & Video Resting Power (on): 2.2 mW
Picture Daytime/Nighttime Power Consumption: 3.8 Ws | 6.8 Ws
Video Daytime/Nighttime Power Consumption: 17.9 Ws | 83.8 Ws
If this camera were to take 35-day pictures and 35-night pictures every 24 hour period, this camera would last 6.4 months in the field on a set of lithium batteries.
If this camera were to take 15-day videos and 15-night videos every 24 hour period, this camera would last 2.1 months in the field on a set of lithium batteries.
Picture Trigger & Recovery Speed: 0.4 s. / 3.4 s.
Video Trigger & Recovery Speed: 1.17 s. / 2.6 s.
Detection Range: 70 ft.
The G45NGX is fast on initial detection and just average on recovery times. A 70 ft. detection range is decent, but probably just average by today's standards. Overall, though, this detection circuit is more than capable.
Dimensions: 5.25" x 3.5" x 2.75"
Battery Type: 8 AA Batteries
External Battery Jack: 12-Volt
Case Design
Case design on the G45NGX is extremely solid. It has the feeling of a well-made trail camera. The latch works flawlessly, the battery tray slides out easily and the camera has a built-in bracket for a python lock (that locks the latch closed as well). There is a 1/4" x 20 threaded insert on the bottom of the camera for a Slate River Mount.
Camera Setup
Stealth Cam likes to have "Quickset" modes as programming options. There is Q1, Q2, and Q3 preset options. While these are quick and easy to use, we almost never use them. In fact, they are pretty unnecessary with as easy as the camera is to program in "custom" mode. If it were up to us, we would scrap the pre-set options and just stick to the custom option. It is easy to navigate, intuitive and sets up in less than a minute.
We were happy to find many of our favorite settings in the menu. Start/stop time, format sd card, password protection, PIR sensitivity and IR flash control options were all present. These features may seem like a small thing, but they are certainly handy when you need them.
SD Card Storage Examples
With a 16 Gig SD card and the camera taking 4 mpxl photos (this is our recommended setting as it is closest to the native resolution), this camera could store 4,016 pictures on the SD card.
With a 16 Gig SD card and the camera taking 1280x720 video resolution, this trailcam could store 195 10-second videos.
From this data, you can extrapolate out storage capacities of different sized SD cards and different resolution settings. We give you a 16 Gig SD card with the purchase of this camera through us. If you need additional or larger SD cards, you can shop all SD card options here.
Durability
We have had good luck with recent Stealth models (like the 2017 G45NG Pro) and expect the G45NGX to be the same. If something changes, we will update the review accordingly.
Keep in mind, our 2-year warranty program is your free insurance program in case something goes wrong with a camera you purchase from us. This warranty protects you from any manufacturing defect the camera might experience for two years.

Q: How do I view the pictures?
A: There are a number of ways to do this. Pictures/videos are stored on the SD card you place in the camera.
Q: Will this trail camera trigger on small animals (birds, rodents, etc.)?
A: Trail cameras detect on a combination of heat and movement, so, yes, small mammals will trigger the camera. However, if you are going after smaller warm-blooded mammals, we recommend getting the camera closer to your target. For best performance, place the camera in an area that would enable picture detection from 3 - 20 ft.
Q: Can animals see the infrared flash on this camera?
A: This is somewhat controversial. Humans can't see the flash as the nanometer spectrum is above what the human eye can detect. It's also much harder for an animal to see, but that could depend on the species of animal as different species see in different light spectrums.
Q: Where can I purchase this camera?
