The EX-XL Epic Ball Head from Explorer Photo & Video is an extra large-sized, lightweight travel ball head featuring a hollowed design that makes it up to 20% lighter than similar size heads. It has a load capacity of 88.2 pounds but weighs only 1.2 lb. A robust 52mm ball diameter makes it capable of supporting larger lenses while being compact enough to use with camera bodies and lens combinations of all sizes. The large main adjustment knob incorporates a friction control dial, and an independent pan lock knob allows the head to rotate on its base. The Arca-type quick release clamp is knob-tightened and includes an EX-60 quick release plate.

Each leg is attached to the tripod's collar via an offset leg joint that helps to evenly distribute heavy loads and maintain the tripod's rigidity. The joints and collar are constructed of lightweight anodized aluminum, which provides it with natural wear and corrosion resistance. Each of the three leg joints also features a variable angle stop that allows multiple shooting positions.

Additional weights or a camera bag can be mounted onto the ballast hook to add extra weight for windy conditions. The 3/8"-16 and 1/4"-20 accessory ports are integrated on the center junction to mount accessories such as the Explorer Sidekick magic arm, compact LED lights, microphones, or more. The flat mount features a 3/8"-16 stud that will accept most tripod heads.
